Umeras Bog
Umeras Bog is a Bord na Móna former raised bog that has been industrially harvested and is now out of production. A local community group (Umeras Community Development Group) are actively promoting the protection of this site for its natural heritage site and local amenity values. Bord na Móna plan to rewet this bog in 2021. The Umeras site includes a variety of cutover habitats and agricultural land on peat soils.
Umeras Bog is located on the Offaly/Kildare border between Rathangan and Monasterevin. The Umeras Community Development Group is a community member of Irish Rural Link through the Community Wetlands Forum and involves landowners and farmers.
